Corso

Race Profile

Ask a Corso navigator where they're from and you'll receive a different system name every time — each one accurate for a different ancestor. The Corso have been nomadic long enough that planetary ownership registers in their culture as a charming superstition held by the stationary. What they own instead: route maps, trade relationships, duplicator patents, and navigation charts so comprehensive that other civilizations have attempted to steal them, only to discover the charts are memory-locked to Corso neural architecture. Their cloaking systems were developed not for war but for avoiding port authorities. Their diplomats have talked their way out of active naval engagements. The exact number of times this has happened is classified by three separate governments.

Strategy Guide

Gameplay Style: Corso

Corso starts with the highest Commerce bonus in the game (+40) and the second-highest Sovereignty relation (70), making them uniquely positioned to profit from the political economy. Commerce returns compound over time — prioritize Forge-heavy ratios early to build economic infrastructure, and invest in commerce-related projects through your Syndicate. Stealth Corsair is not just a raiding tool; it is an intelligence asset. Run Corsair missions against wealthier targets to generate income while gathering positional data.

Your +20 Diplomacy and Diplomat ability mean maintaining positive relations with powerful neighbors is achievable even under provocation. This is your primary defense against the -30 Military penalty — you should rarely need to fight because your diplomacy keeps you out of wars and your Corsairs are invisible. The 70 initial Sovereignty relation also gives you legitimate standing to file grievances when attacked, which deters casual aggression.

Efficient Investment makes Corso development fund spending one of the best ROI options in the game. Pour excess Commerce income into planet development and watch your population and production compound. In the mid-game, Scavenger turns every nearby battle — even one you did not fight — into a resource opportunity. Corso rewards clever positioning over combat power: know who is fighting, stay out of it, and collect the aftermath.
